The Great (Frigid) Easter Egg Hunt

Our neighborhood's annual Easter Egg Hunt was held (by proxy of our large yard, flat driveway and cleaned-out-garage) at our house, this year . . . and we all froze our butts off!!!

Rain fell steadily all night, then it began snowing Saturday morning. Today's temperature never got above 35 degrees. The neighborhood's event organizer already had decided that the egg hunt should be held no matter the weather (since it would a pain to reschedule). So, by around 9:30 this morning, around 40 people arrived with children in tow for the egg hunt. We opened our garage to shelter visitors from the biting wind and wet snow, and two neighborhood teenagers hid plastic eggs for the kids while everyone huddled in our garage over coffee and donuts.

Megan and Mary were very excited about the hunt occurring in their own (plus a few neighboring) backyards, and they dressed accordingly: In heavy coats, hats, gloves and rain boots. All things considered, people had a good time. Every child brought home a respectable haul of plastic eggs bearing goodies within.

Here are a few photos:

The rush begins . . .
that's Megan in the pink and purple, darting into our backyard.

Having collected the eggs hiding amidst Courtney's dormant tarragon,
Mary plots her next move.

Is it Spring, yet?

Just a few update photos while we wait (not very patiently) for warmer weather to arrive and stay for awhile. We had a warm snap more than a week ago. It got up to 74 degrees, and we celebrated heartily by thawing out the sandbox:

Of course, within hours of this photo being taken,
the temperature plummeted into the teens.

Frozen blueberries will do for now (note the evidence on Megan's upper lip)

Here's Mary, being snuggly while watching Saturday morning cartoons.

Uncle Matt recently challenged his juggling abilities:
Mary helped stack a dozen balls for Matt to juggle.

This is Matt, recognizing how gravity might impact his situation . . .

Even a wide-angle lens couldn't capture the results, but it was a good attempt.

Matt CAN juggle up to 4 balls very well.
What a great sport!
