Who knew that KU football would so well, this year? KU's victory last night at the Orange Bowl was so unprecedented that many Kansas fans literally didn't know how to react to making it into a big-time bowl game, let alone winning it.
As Ken put it, "I feel like I did after the White Sox won the World Series: I don't know what I should do". At one point, he literally got weak in the knees watching this celebration going on in Orlando after Kansas won at the Orange Bowl. I'm posting some photos I shot of Ken and longtime friend (fellow KU grad Jon Waynick) watching and celebrating the game in our home.
Of course, after the game ended, Jon and Ken made the necessary pilgrimmage to Lawrence. But with most of the student population gone for the holiday break, there were few fans to be found on The Hill. After a non-fruitful search through KU bar staples, Jon and Ken eventually located a full and celebratory bar of KU fans at The Hawk, and stopped for some obligatory suds.
Jon and Ken made it back to their respective abodes at around 2 a.m. . . and then they got up and went to work early that morning. Ken made it through his workday and is now home, still in a daze over KU's victory.
We are so, so excited about Kansas winning at the Orange Bowl. For such a long time, KU has been known as a basketball school, and people have made fun of our football program. But we're growing and we'll learn from this remarkable season. Rock chalk, Jayhawks!
Here are photos:
"They're taking a knee! KU has won the Orange Bowl!"Suppose we ought to drive to Lawrence (even if every is still out of town)."
Jon, with his beloved, Mangiono-worship T-shirt, alongside FOX's coverage of the post-game show and Coach Mangino. Hope the FOX network and its legal dept won't be too upset by our flattering copyright infraction of their coverage. How awesome that we were able to see that rainy (and historic) game from the comfort of our living room. Now for the KU basketball season! Go Hawks!
